Abstract: With the continued surge in electric vehicle ownership and the increasing demand for fast charging, unraveling the spatial heterogeneity in the usage intensity of public fast-charging station is of great significance for optimizing the layout of urban charging infrastructure. This paper aims to investigate the spatial heterogeneity and underlying driving mechanisms in the usage intensity of public fast-charging station under weekday and non-working day scenarios. Using the actual operation data from 157 public fast-charging stations in Nanjing, this study constructs a built environment indicator system from six dimensions: density, diversity, design, public transit proximity, destination accessibility, and socioeconomic characteristics. The multiscale geographically weighted regression model is employed to identify the key influencing factors of public fast-charging station and to decipher their spatially heterogeneous mechanisms. Furthermore, a sensitivity analysis on the buffer radius is conducted to compare the model fitting performance and the effects of variables under different radius scales. The findings reveal that the proximity to subway stations and railway stations exerts a positive effect on the usage intensity of public fast-charging station, while office areas show a negative effect. Road network density is predominantly negatively associated with the usage intensity, with stronger significance on non-working days. The number of bus stops exhibits a significant positive association only on weekdays. The sensitivity analysis results indicate that 1.0 kilometer buffer radius effectively captures the relationship between the utilization intensity of public fast-charging stations and the surrounding built environment. The results uncover the built environment driving mechanisms behind the spatial heterogeneity in the usage intensity of public fast-charging station, which can provide scientific support for differentiated layout and refined the facility planning of urban public fast-charging stations.
