Abstract: Setting roadside signs at the ordinary road is the most common measure to improve road traffic safety. Because of the relatively high percentage of heavy vehicles, it is easy for car drivers at median lane to be occluded by heavy vehicle at outside lane when car drivers recognize the roadside signs, and the actual role of roadside signs is difficult to play. Based on the visual characteristic of roadside signs, and taking the dual four-lane ordinary road as the research object, this paper analyzed the problem of car drivers at median lane being occluded by the heavy vehicles at outside lane, and developed the relevant occlusion calculation models under the condition of poisson arrival distribution of traffic flow. Then, relative countermeasures to solve the occlusion problem of roadside signs are proposed from three aspects: setting repeatedly, changing setting mode, and location. Finally, the correctness and feasibility of the results were verified by an example.
