    Abstract ( )   PDF (2264KB) ( )
The process of interactive growth between urban morphology and urban transport networks morphology, needs urban transport network to satisfy the traffic demands of urban social and economic activities, and the morphology of urban transport networks should harmonies with the urban morphology. To measure and analysis the urban transport networks morphology will be helpful to understand the characteristics of urban transport networks, so as to plan and control the develop scale and trend of the networks development, and the urban transport networks morphology will match the urban morphology better. In the view of urban morphology structure “increase and replace” developing mode and the interactive process of “extend sprawl and inter reconstruction” of urban morphology, this paper described the interactive growth relationship and morphological similarity between urban morphology and urban transport networks morphology. How to measure urban rail transit network morphology is also put forward definitely in this paper in advance. Adopting fractal geometry’s principles, this paper builds four fractal dimensions: traffic capacity dimension, passenger coverage dimension, resistant dimension and branch dimension to portray traffic network capacity level, trip service coverage status, traffic network connectivity and their varieties mathematically. A fractal measure method to urban transit rail networks morphology is established in this paper. The measurement to rail transit networks of Beijing, Mexico and Moscow has indicated that the method can character the main fractal features of different rail transit network form preferably.

Urban expressway control based on fuzzy logic and variable speed limit
    LIN Shang-wei,LIN Yan
    2007, 7(1): 50-56 .
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1411KB) ( )
This paper discusses the pressing need for the traffic contro1 of urban freeway. Incorporating the characteristics of urban expressway with a macroscopic dynamic deterministic traffic flow model, a variable speed limit control (VSLC) approach is proposed. The main idea is that we use a VSLC for middle-low traffic density section, and a VSLC, together with an on-ramp control, for middle-high traffic density section based on the principle of fuzzy logic. The VSL controller is used to regulate the velocity of vehicles and therefore, to make the traffic flow more stable, while the on-ramp controller is only used in middle-high traffic density section to maintain the density of the traffic flow on the mainline. The simulation results are also given to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

    Ma Yan-li, Pei Yu-long
    2007, 7(1): 57-60 .
    Abstract ( )   PDF (963KB) ( )
Dynamic Route Guidance System guides the behaviors of drivers by providing optimal route based on real-time traffic information. To guarantee the total expenses that travels on the network is least, and the driving route provides for driver more reasonable and more efficient. Dynamic route guidance must be ensure global optimal. This paper use transiently chaotic neural network (TCNN) to solve the problem of dynamic route guidance. By importing chaotic dynamic characteristic in HNN, using its all-over characteristic to search randomly, using the annealing algorithm to control and weaken the chaos, and then turning to HNN to be optimized, we can make sure the net convergence to a balanced steady point. Result of simulations shows that TCNN algorithm is used in Dynamic Route Guidance System to solve the optimal route problem, can always converges to the globally optimal solution and has higher capability for searching than HNN. It provides an effective way to figure out continuous nonlinear optimizations, and efficiency of TCNN algorithm used in Dynamic Route Guidance System is proved.

Modeling and Implementation of an Integrated Ramp
    Metering-Diamond Interchange Control System
    TIAN Zongzhong
    2007, 7(1): 61-72 .
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2486KB) ( )
This paper addresses a modeling approach to analyzing an integrated system that includes freeway mainlines, ramp
metering, and an upstream signalized diamond interchange. The modeling approach takes into consideration of the various
components, their operational characteristics, and their interactions within the system. Strategies are also proposed for real-time
operation and possible field implementation. The key element of achieving an integrated operation is to control the ramp feeding
traffic through special signal timings at the diamond interchange. Whenever a long queue is detected at the metered ramp, the signal
timing should be adjusted to reduce the traffic flows entering the ramp. In this way, the ramp meter will remain in operation for as
long as possible, which would delay the onset of queue flush (i.e., termination of ramp meter) and minimize the possibilities of a
freeway breakdown. Because a diamond interchange is usually controlled by special signal phasing and timing, the control strategies
are specially focused on the special diamond signal phasing schemes. The system design and system architecture are also presented
for potential deployment of the system in the field.

    2007, 7(1): 79-91 .
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2801KB) ( )
The fast growing of economy in Alberta, Canada makes a well-ahead statewide planning a pressing task. A statewide land use transport model is being developed at the University of Calgary for responding such a need. The model is based on the framework of PECAS, which represents Production, Exchange, Commodity Allocation System. The virtue of such a system is that it brings the transportation planning in the context of the whole economy by considering the fundamental root of transport demand, which is the exchange of goods, services, and labor among various activities, such as industries, services, households, and government. The PECAS framework is a spatial economic simulation system with a focus on transportation planning and land development planning, which has recently been developed and applied in a number of states and metropolitan regions in the United States. It draws from previous modeling experience, especially MEPLAN and TRANUS, and provides significant improvements in theoretical basis and behavior representation. This paper describes the design and development of such a model for the Canadian province of Alberta in terms of its data sources, novelty, and strategies for further calibration.

Microscopic traffic-emission simulation and case study
for evaluation of traffic control strategies
    Kun Chen, Lei Yu.
    2007, 7(1): 93-100 .
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1947KB) ( )
Many studies have shown that the amounts of vehicle emissions are typically affected by vehicles’ instantaneous speeds and acceleration rates. In order to make an effort to control the mobile source vehicle emissions from a technical perspective, it is necessary to develop a microscopic simulation platform for estimating vehicle emissions, which can capture the instantaneous vehicles’ modal activities. This paper is intended to develop an integrated microscopic traffic-emissions simulation platform by using the microscopic traffic simulation model VISSIM and the modal emissions model CMEM. A sub-network selected from the Haidian district of Beijing is used to build a traffic simulation network, whose traffic and emission conditions are subsequently evaluated. Relationships between the instantaneous emission / fuel consumption rate and the instantaneous speed/acceleration are first analyzed. Then, the emissions for a variety of vehicle types in the network are analyzed. Finally, the developed platform is used to evaluate the impact of alternative traffic control and management strategies for two scenarios.

Study on Microscopic Simulation Model of Right-Turn Vehicles at Signalized Intersection
    JIANG Hai-feng,WEI Xue-ye, ZHANG Yi
    2007, 7(1): 110-114 .
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1103KB) ( )
Mixed traffic is the main characteristic of large cities in China, especially at signalized intersection. Great interference occurs between vehicles and bicycles at the same phase but heading for different directions, which severely reduce the traffic capacity of the intersection, deteriorate the hidden trouble on traffic safety and make the traffic management very hard to be implemented. Microscopic traffic behavior model is one of the powerful tools for studying mixed traffic; Based on the mixed traffic problem at three phase signalized intersection, this paper analyzed the main factors affecting the traversing behavior of right-turn vehicles, and established a microscopic behavior simulation model of right-turn vehicles traversing through bicycles. The model is calibrated and validated with field data. This model illustrates the interference mechanism between vehicles and bicycles at signalized intersection and provides a flexible and efficient experiment method for the microscopic simulation of vehicles under mixed traffic conditions.

    2007, 7(1): 120-123 .
    Abstract ( )   PDF (684KB) ( )
An order and selling inventory model is concerned based on the inventory theory. Considering that lot-size discount phenomenon usually exists in the actuality, so suppose to have lot-size discount in the model. And also suppose that the need speed is continuous and uniform, and shortage is allowed, which brings shortage cost. The mean total inventory cost includes order cost, inventory cost and shortage cost. An order and selling inventory model with shortage allowed under the condition of limited-space warehouse and lot-size discount is developed approaching to actuality as possible. And make use of mathematics method to solve the model, then the optimal order quantity, the optimal order cycle and the minimum mean total inventory cost are confirmed. Finally, the application of the model is illustrated by an example.

Comparative Study on Optimal Type Selection of Marshalling Station Between Unidirectional and Bidirectional
    YAN He-xiang,LIN Bo-liang,ZHENG Jin-rong,ZHANG Yun-he
    2007, 7(1): 124-131 .
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1761KB) ( )
Marshalling station is a fundamental place for railway technical operation, and plays a key role in wagon flow organization.Since the cost of construction or reconstruction of Marshalling station is very huge, there should have careful consideration in station type selection.Marshalling station, whatever it is unidirectional or bidirectional, has its own advantages and disadvantages in real operation, and at the same time, there have many other factors which influence station layout. Therefore,it’s unpractical to determine station type only by qualitative analysis, instead, quantitative analysis must be adopted so as to establish a general standard.Basing on above analysis,This paper first puts forward technical items in type selection, and then makes quantitative research into influence of reversing train in unidirectional Marshalling station and angular traffic flow in bidirectional Marshalling station respectively, from which some relative technique factors are acquired in the aspect of wagon flow structure.Afterwards, this paper presents typical station type selecting model by taking unidirectional three-stage/three-yard Marshalling station and bidirectional three-stage/six-yard Marshalling station as representation. At last, northern Xuzhou is applied to a numeral example to validate the effect of this method, which proves that station type selecting by means of comparing the total waste of wagon flow in the Marshalling station from the view of wagon flow structure is not only effective but scientific, meanwhile, this provides a scientific and effective decision-making measure for determining the scope and layout of Marshalling station.
