The Bottlenecks and Strategies for Development of Intelligent Transportation System in China
    SHI Jing, LI Wen-Yu
    2012, 12(增1): 1-6.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (423KB) ( )
This study explores the bottleneck in developing stage and relative strategy to assist the ITS development in China. To identify the bottlenecks of ITS development in China, the paper analyzes the collected data, interviews people in transportation industry and conducts investigations to analyze and compare the policy, industry and technology. The data and analysis show that ITS in China is still in starting stage. Both users’ demands and attraction to funds are in great need, on the contrary, the ratio of related completed standards is less than 20%. The infrastructures construction is still oriented toward the governors’ view to reduce management cost and to promote the management efficiency with high attraction and priority. However, the products facing normal transport participants are restricted. The technical bottleneck, such as accurate locating and controlling of vehicles technology, needs to be improved. The combination of drivers, vehicles and roads still needs development in China.

    Abstract ( )   PDF (612KB) ( )
In the spectrum analysis based on the Fourier transform, spectral resolution and spectral leakage are two key factors for power spectrum estimation. This paper analyzes the influence of non-integer-periodic truncation on the property of the two factors. It proposes the frequency spectrum refinement and frequency spectrum correction methods for intelligent transportation doppler radar signals. The algorithms such as Zoom-FFT, High-order FFT, all phase FFT (ApFFT) are realized on DSP (TMS320C5416). The simulations show the algorithms’ property respectively. The theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the high-order ApFFT and all phase ZFFT(Ap-ZFFT) can be effectively applied to different radar systems.

    Abstract ( )   PDF (587KB) ( )
For the current used OBU in Chinese ETC industry, the discrete components structure always leads to system instability, and the diode peak detecting technology increase the cost. This paper studies the OBUs both at home and abroad and analyzes the National Standard, and then proposes a system integration solution. Instead of building the system with discrete components, system integration solution integrates every submodule into one single chip. It solves a series of problems such as system instability, high BOM cost and high repairing rate. The design is proven to be correction, feasibility for the by system simulation based on filed test. The design has applied several patents in China.

    2012, 12(增1): 31-37.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2048KB) ( )
In view of driver safety and comfort, safety evaluation of index of horizontal curve on freeway is significant to road design, operation and management. Based on the theory and method of driver workload, typical vehicles (cars and trucks) are chosen for realvehicle testing with a random sample of 28 drivers. This study analyzes the data of 339 horizontal curve sections. The orderliness of driver workload degree is obtained, by which the authors classified the standard of horizontal curve. It establishes the regression model between driver workload degree and road alignment index. Combined regression model with controlling values of driver safety, index of horizontal curve is used to evaluate driving safety. Finally, the case studies of two freeways show that the evaluation method is feasible.

    2012, 12(增1): 73-79.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (496KB) ( )
In the coordination direction of oversaturated arterial road, this paper presents an objective function of the dynamic coordinated control model to maximize the number of through vehicle by introducing the queue management strategy weighting factor. The constraints of the model are analyzed from offset, green time of the coordination phase, queue management strategy and the traffic volume leaving the intersection in the coordination phase. Four different queue management strategies are put forward to describe their specific content and analyze their corresponding weight factor formulas in each strategy. Integrating the objective function and constraints, the dynamic coordinated control model is developed for oneway oversaturated arterial road. Finally, taking the Jihua Road in Foshan city of China as the case, the data from the VISSIM simulation shows that the model can effectively reduce the queue length and delay, and improve the capacity of the arterial road as well.

    2012, 12(增1): 80-85.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (687KB) ( )
The traffic congestion and the second accidents caused by congestion receive increasingly attentions of the society. The technology of corresponding points matching is the key of the three-dimensional reconstruction of traffic accidents scene, which is important for the reproducing of the traffic accident scene and can assist reducing traffic accidents handling time. The paper first introduces relevant knowledge of the photogrammetry and epipolar geometry. With the knowledge, the searching area of corresponding points is changed from the whole picture to a line. Then, the method of feature points’ strength factor is used, and combined the assumption of pictures’ comparability and continuity to search the corresponding point. With the foundation above, the point which is on the corresponding line and also has the biggest strength factor is the corresponding point. In the experiment of traffic accidents, this method can search the corresponding points with high accuracy.

    2012, 12(增1): 91-98.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1130KB) ( )
This paper introduces a method to realize automatic turning at intersections in urban environment based on the GPS/INS (global positioning system/inertial navigation system). It not only uses the GPS/INS to generate route network definition file, but obtains real time positioning and turning information. As the vehicle approaches the intersection, the paper utilizes waypoints which locate the end segment of the current road and the beginning segment of the next road to perform local path planning online by polynomial curve fitting. The preview follower control is used to make the vehicle following the trajectory planned to cross the intersection when secure for turning. As to the preview follower control method, the simulation of “vehicleroadcontroller” based on the Matlab/Simulink shows that the vehicle can follow the planned trajectory with smooth steering wheel angle curve which can be conducted by steering system. Finally, field test shows that by applying this method, the unmanned vehicle with EPS can turn autonomously at intersections.

Traffic State Evaluation Method for Guangzhou Urban Road Network and Its Application in the 16th Asian Games
GONG Jun-Feng, SU Kui, HE Zhao-Cheng, SHA Zhi-Ren, CHEN Xiao-Xiang
    2012, 12(增1): 106-112.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (574KB) ( )
To analyze traffic state of large urban road networks, a network scaled traffic state evaluation method is proposed for Guangzhou city. It is based on the comparative analysis of the evaluation research of traffic operation and traffic congestion. The core of the method is the spatiotemporal accumulation of traffic congestion according to the average travel speed of road sections. Consider different weights of different road sections, the congestion index and the mobility index are used to analyze traffic congestion and mobility performance. Through calculation of the indicators, the results show the effect of the traffic management of 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, including the traffic congestion and traffic mobility features. Empirical analysis shows that combination of network scaled congestion and mobility index is more sensitive than average travel speed of road sections and can reflect the actual traffic state from different aspects.
